Appropriate Population:
- School-age (5 years and up)
- Mild delay or age-appropriate cognitive and language abilities
Goal:
- Identifying problems
- Problem-solving
- Identifying others’ emotions
- Perspective-taking
Steps:
- You have the option of reading out the book yourself (put the video on mute), or letting the video play with the read-aloud voiceover. Choose the most suitable option based on your client’s language and attentional abilities.
- Pause the video after each page.
- Discuss the problems which occurred to Alexander on that page.
- Choose one of the problems and discuss how you would solve the problem.
Step-up:
- Ask the client to independently identify the problems which occurred on each page.
- Discuss solutions to each of the problems.
- Discuss the pros and cons of multiple solutions you and your client come up with and pick the best solution.
Step down:
- Choose one problem from the page and ask the client if they can identify the problem.
