Appropriate Population:
- 3-6 years old
- Moderate or mild delay or age-appropriate cognitive and language abilities
Goal: Staying on topic
- Answering questions
- Initiating conversation
- Participating in conversation
- Giving information
Steps:
- Ask the client to choose a soft toy animal to have a conversation with
- AHA or client can choose a topic.
- Have a conversation between client and soft toy (AHA)
Step-up:
- Client to start the conversation
- Client to end the conversation
- Choose a topic which is not one of the client’s passions
Step down:
- Give one sentence about the topic.
- Keep each conversation to a specific amount of time (ie: 3 minute conversations)
